The Ancient, The Mad Philosopher, The Soul of Creation Decayed

As the surviving deity of the Shattered Pantheon, the Arbitror has more information written about him than the newer gods. Humanity called him by the name Lucial in the days before the Shattering, a name which, while lost to common mind as the others are, survives in theological scripts. In ancient times, he enjoyed a near-monopoly on worship as his brother-god was exiled.

This changed with the Shattering, when he sustained the dual hit of his brother’s murder failing to empower him as it ought have (instead sapping his power), and a grievous wound sustained shortly thereafter. The Arbitror was left crippled, and eventually fell silent to his worshippers.

There are still sects that revere him, although they are far smaller these days and mostly kept up out of a sense of tradition.

Exitialis

DOMAINS
Destruction, Chaos, Madness, Envy
ASSOCIATIONS
Madmen, the eclipse, potential despoiled, the seasons of fall and spring
SOBRIQUETS
The Maleficent, The Betrayer, He Who Stabs from Beyond the Throne, He Who Must Be Forgotten

Exitialis is a hybrid of the Shattered Pantheon and the Second Pantheon, a new god born from the combined might of the old. He is also unique in that his cults have never been public – though he had mortal followers in the ancient past, worshipping him has been strictly forbidden for centuries – the only god whose supplicants are widely punished by death.

Rumors say that The Maleficent was born of the combined power of Arbitror and Auctor, a disaster that led to the creation of the Exitialis, who had previously been thought to form only with the combination of those two gods themselves. As he succumbed to madness and destruction, the gods of the Second Pantheon put aside their differences to band together and seal him away beyond the Pillar of Order.

Casus

ALIGNMENT
Lawful Evil
DOMAINS
Fate, Inquisition, Greed
ASSOCIATIONS
Priests, unseen potential, truth uncovered, the color green
SOBRIQUETS
Teacher, The First Priest, He Who Discerns Lies

A member of the Second Pantheon, even less is known about Casus than the others. His church in particular values secrecy, with supplicants keeping largely to themselves with the exception of a few officials who server as sort of “Recruiters”. Membership to this church is not voluntary, but worshippers are instead selected by these officials – usually in childhood. To be a follower of Casus, they say, is a matter of fate.

Worshippers live a carefully cloistered life until adulthood, when they are often hired out by kingdoms or those in places of power to serve as advisors or judges. Casus, they insist, gives them the power to see What Could Be, and to perfectly see through untruths.

Murus

ALIGNMENT
Lawful Good
DOMAINS
Protection, Strength, Hatred
ASSOCIATIONS
Soldiers, the weak and uncertain, the color grey and the western direction
SOBRIQUETS
Warrior, Hand of Justice, The Sword that Smites True

A member of the Second Pantheon. Murus’ church has the highest rate of Paladins, and some consider it to be a very warlike, almost mercenary group. While it’s true that the church as a whole tends to be rather militaristic, they’re not warmongering. The church will lend its might to assist in local issues and defend the towns under its purview, but it is not interested in conquest or war for war’s sake.

In spite of its reputation, the church will accept anyone who wishes to join, and while taking part in military affairs is not compulsory, adherents are expected to live a very strict lifestyle.

Peritious

ALIGNMENT
Chaotic Neutral
DOMAINS
Knowledge, Rune, Pride
ASSOCIATIONS
Travelers, forgotten roads, lost books, the color white and the southern direction
SOBRIQUETS
Wanderer, Father of Scholars, The Shadow that Strikes

A member of the Second Pantheon. Peritious’ church accepts all scholars, and its degree of education rivals that of Casus’ church. Divination is also practiced by his followers (although less commonly), and the two groups are known to scorn each other bitterly. Peritious’ church, however, is more about knowing one’s path in life than in knowing one’s destination. This is also a very open church, accepting supplicants of all walks and lacking in overt focus on worship – it pleases the god, they preach, that his followers learn as much as they can about the world around them, rather than focus their wills on the abstract. Historians also find a niche here.

Oddly, the physical church buildings (far and few between), seem to be over-blessed with native populations of white cats. It is tradition, even unspoken law, to treat these animals very well to a point that borders on the superstitious.

Sanitas

ALIGNMENT
Neutral Evil
DOMAINS
Healing, Deathbound, Lust
ASSOCIATIONS
Doctors, the dying, bone and blood, the color red
SOBRIQUETS
The Physician, Father of the Dead, With Whom Life Begins and Ends

A member of the Second Pantheon. While followers of Sanitas are also scholars, their focus is specific – they deal in the study of anatomy, of life, and of death. Worshippers of Sanitas are frequently seen serving as doctors, morticians, undertakers and tomb-keepers – in fact, their center of operations is a sprawling town-sized necropolis which also – rather grimly – hosts a medical academy.

It’s rumored that priests of Sanitas are gifted with necromantic ability.

Veneficia

ALIGNMENT
Chaotic Good
DOMAINS
Magic, Spell, Sloth
ASSOCIATIONS
Mothers, the lonely, arcane magic, the color blue and the eastern direction
SOBRIQUETS
Witch, Mother Magus, She Who Wept for the Fallen

A member of the Second Pantheon. Veneficia’s followers are almost exclusively mages and wizards, and they’re known to be a bit reclusive. The central location for their religion is an ancient city on the Dragonshead Peninsula, which they say was favored by the Mother Magus in her mortal days. Supplicants of Veneficia preach patience, and have been known to tolerate the worshippers of most of the other gods even where some sects are at each others’ throats. Unity and better living through magic is generally the belief they espouse, although for the Academies of Magic that they build, combat casting is standard curriculum.

While the church itself will accept pretty much anyone, enrollment in its Academies is strictly vetted, only taking in those who display magical aptitude (special considerations are permitted for those unfortunate enough to already be displaying their magical prowess in an uncontrolled manner, rendering it an emergency situation).
